Therapy for Childhood Trauma in Los Angeles CA
You Survived Then, You Can Heal Now
Your childhood home was supposed to be your safe space, but instead, it became your training ground for survival. Maybe you learned to walk on eggshells around angry adults, or became the family peacekeeper before you even started middle school. You may have mastered the art of being invisible or turned into the ‘perfect’ kid who never caused problems to avoid harsh punishment or criticism. Your nervous system got really good at navigating danger, but now those same protective mechanisms are keeping you stuck.
Now, you find yourself people-pleasing to the point of exhaustion, wasting hours of your precious time on perfectionism, or getting overwhelmed by things that seem small to everyone else. That hypervigilance that could tell what mood they were in based on their footsteps now makes it impossible to relax, even when you know you're safe. And that critical voice in your head that tells you you’ll never be good enough is constantly pushing you into shame spirals or even despair. Despite all of this, you still may feel guilty admitting how bad it felt or try to minimize what happened to you.
Whether your childhood trauma was emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or all of the above, your reactions make complete sense. In fact, there is a term specific to your experience, Complex-PTSD (CPTSD). Your body and mind did exactly what they needed to do to get you through a difficult childhood. But you’re not in that house anymore, and you don't have to stay in survival mode forever.
Now is the time to reclaim your mind, body, and spirit.

What will Childhood trauma therapy be like?
To heal childhood trauma, often referred to as CPTSD, we need to go beyond traditional talk therapy and integrate techniques that heal your nervous system. All Ash & Blooms therapists specialize in healing trauma and are trained to use approaches known as the gold standard for healing CPTSD by the American Psychological Association.
Our therapists will guide you through a healing process known as Internal Family Systems (IFS), a non-pathologizing, compassion-based therapy. IFS helps you to build an understanding of why you feel the way you do and that each part of you is actually protecting you from the dangers you faced as a child. This sacred process leads to a deep felt sense of self-compassion and helps you to tap into your inner wisdom. It also safely guides you to your inner wounded children who are waiting for your rescue, allowing us to heal trauma at the root.
Additionally, we always integrate somatic body-based therapy that works directly with the areas of your brain that store your trauma, such as Havening Techniques, Somatic Experiencing, or EMDR. This blend of IFS and somatic therapy has a profound impact on not only your day-to-day life but also your sense of self. To read more about CPTSD and the healing process, check out our Journal Entry, ‘Understanding CPTSD: Beyond Traditional Trauma.’
Of course, each therapeutic journey will look a bit different as your therapist will customize your care to your cultural background, preferences, and the pace that feels most safe to you. Regardless, our mission is to provide you with the healing you deserve and the deep-felt sense of confidence you need to shift from surviving to thriving.
A life of liberation, inner harmony, and empowerment is waiting for you, and you’re just a step away.
